What we solve

Six problems that cost more than they look like they do.

Each of these is cheap in a single instance and expensive in aggregate. This page is the longer version of the explorer on the homepage — open a challenge and read the whole thing.

Manual work consuming valuable time

Why it happens
Processes usually start manual because the volume was small and the exception rate was high. The volume grows; the manual step stays, because nobody owns the decision to change it.
How it shows up in the work
Experienced people spend their day moving information between screens. Throughput is capped by headcount, and quality drops at the end of a shift rather than at the start.
Approaches we would consider
  • Map the real path a request takes, including the undocumented steps people invented to cope.
  • Separate the rules that are stable from the judgement calls that genuinely need a person.
  • Automate the stable rules first and route the exceptions to a named owner with context attached.
Example deliverables
  • Process map with handoffs and wait states
  • Automation candidate list, ranked by effort and risk
  • Working automation for the highest-volume path
  • Exception-handling design
